Doximity and Hospital Rankings

About Doximity and Your Profile

Why should I join or claim my Doximity profile?

Most U.S. physicians already have a Doximity profile that has been generated from public records, but it is often out of date and may not reflect current practice locations and specialties. Doximity uses these physician profiles to generate a public-facing directory, which U.S. News & World Report uses for their public online physician locator tool. The information in the profile is also used to to help determine eligibility to vote in the reputation portion of their annual Best Hospitals rankings. Outdated contact and practice information may lead to issues with voting.

Claiming and completing your Doximity profile is crucial to managing your online reputation, whether you actively participate on the site or not. A Doximity profile can be claimed by licensed US healthcare professionals. Unlike many online networks, Doximity maintains a "stub" profile for clinicians based on information in the NPI database. Therefore, joining the network typically begins with simply claiming a profile.

To help you understand the U of U Health partnership with Doximity, or for those who are not familiar with it, we have linked resources in the buttons below. We encourage all clinical care providers with NPI numbers to engage in outreach on the platform to share their expertise, network with peers, and promote awareness of University of Utah Health programs and research.

How Do I Get Started?

Claim or Verify Your Physician Profile

STEP 1: Visit www.doximity.com.

STEP 2: Search for your name in the search bar.

STEP 3: Claim/verify your profile. Click ‘CLAIM’ or ‘VERIFY MY PROFILE,’ and Doximity will walk you through these processes step-by-step. Doximity uses a number of sources to verify a physician’s identity, including (but not limited to) faxed copies of medical credentials, badges, licenses; DEA numbers; and emails from officially recognized medical institutions (schools or hospitals). Note: average verification processing time is three days.

STEP 4: Add a profile picture. If you do not have a recent professional photo, please contact your administrator to access or schedule a headshot. For detailed instructions on uploading a profile picture, click here.

ALTERNATIVE TO 4, STEP 5: Email a Microsoft Word document of your CV (and/or your profile picture) to cvupload@doximity.com, and Doximity’s staff will complete most of your online profile for you.

Your Vote — U.S. News and World Report

Voting for the 2025 US News & World Report annual Best Hospitals Survey will be rolled out to physicians in tiers. Typically, all eligible voters will begin receiving an email with a unique link to vote starting mid February. Physicians will not all receive an email on the same day. If you did not receive an email with a link to vote, Doximity provides a link on the home page of your physician profile. See Figure 1 for details on where to find the link to vote.

The survey dates are unannounced, but the voting will likely close the last week of March 2025.

Your vote is important — it makes a tangible, positive impact on U of U Health — further strengthening our reputation that you help build every day.
