Idiopathic Pulmonary Fibrosis

The interstitial lung diseases (ILD) are a complex group of diagnoses that require specialized care provided by an interdisciplinary team that includes pulmonologists, chest radiologists, and lung pathologists. The most common ILD, idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis (IPF), is a progressive disease with an unpredictable course characterized by irreversible, and ultimately fatal, scarring of the lungs.

The IPF ECHO seeks to provide greater access to the knowledge of pulmonary specialists in both rural and urban areas.  Providers and their peers will have the opportunity to present real life cases and receive feedback from a multidisciplinary team of experts. In addition, they can look forward to hearing the latest in clinical trends from leading experts in the field of idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis.

Case review is an important part of medical education and will now be available to individuals outside a single institution. Project ECHO will leverage these traditional sessions so that more care providers from across the Mountain region have access to a multidisciplinary panel review. 

Cases will be selected from submitted forms to provide optimal educational value. Each Echo will start with a didactic presentation from a specialist to provide further insight into diagnosis and care management of IPF patients. 

Who Teaches the Seminars?

Sessions will be hosted by Dr. Mary Beth Scholand, associate professor in pulmonary medicine. She is currently the director of the Interstitial Lung Disease Clinic at University of Utah Health and center director for the Utah Pulmonary Fibrosis Foundation Care Center Network site.

CME Credit—ABIM MOC Medical Knowledge Assessment Credit

Successful completion of this CME activity, which includes participation in the evaluation component, enables the participant to earn up to 1.5 MOC points in the American Board of Internal Medicine's (ABIM) Maintenance of Certification (MOC) program. Participants will earn MOC points equivalent to the amount of CME credits claimed for the activity.

It is the CME activity provider's responsibility to submit participant completion information to ACCME for the purpose of granting ABIM MOC credit.
