Social Determinants of Health

How Do We Eliminate Disparities in Healthcare?

University of Utah Health offers support and resources to help eliminate health disparities and provide the best possible healthcare to all patients. Provider education on how to understand and interact with patients of different backgrounds, including historically marginalized groups, can help improve health outcomes for the whole community. The resources below focus on social determinants of health (SDH), which are the non-medical factors that influence health outcomes.

Project ECHO

A lack of access to affordable, quality care can lead to inappropriate and costly utilization of the health system and to poor health outcomes for individuals. Project ECHO addresses these issues through virtual training for community providers (often in rural settings) to address specialty care health concerns such as Midlife Women's Health, LGBTQIA+ Care, Substance Abuse Disorder, and Child Abuse.

Transgender Health Training

As the only multi-disciplinary Transgender Health Program in the Mountain West, University of Utah Health is committed to providing education and resources to providers looking for more information. You can take advantage of our transgender health best practice trainings or participate in annual clinical CME (continuing medical education) opportunities on this topic.
